Blessing a new car

August 2nd, 2009

Despite my indolent mood today, I tried to get myself out of the house and accompany my hubby together with little Claire to attend his best friend’s ‘car blessing’. Along the way, he asked me what is this kind of occasion, he is not sold to the idea of having a new car blessed… and after a quite long explanation, I was able to convince him the importance of having this kind of occasion, an ordinary one yet meaningful.

As a Catholic, I believe and put reverence on having important things blessed by a priest, so aside from getting blessed the newly acquired rosary, bible, saint images, and other religious items, the priest can also blessed a new house, a new business establishment and even a brand new car. It is usually a short ceremony where the priest says his blessing and prays over it while sprinkling holy water to it. Then afterwards, a little ‘salu-salo’ is served.

Unfortunately, we missed the blessing ceremony of his friend’s car so he didn’t able to witness it, so we went straight ahead for pizza in “Yellow Cab” to celebrate the ‘blessing’… It’s a simple occasion yet fulfilling. My hubby and I thought of having our house blessed soon… ;)

I don’t have a moody day after all… especially when we have a great bonding moment with our little girl… just strolling to her favorite mall where she can run and walk tirelessly… whew!

Corazon Aquino

August 1st, 2009

corazon_aquinoFirst President of the Fifth Republic of the Philippines and first woman president of the Philippines , Mrs. Cory Aquino, died today at the age of 76 after a battle with colon cancer. President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo decalared a 10-day national mourning period, for the Philippines.

Aquino uplifts democracy in the Philippines when she transitioned power from a blodless “People Power” revolt led by former President Marcos. I admire President Aquino for her courage to lead the Filipino people in restoring democracy at a time of great peril in the country. This occasion of mourning period for a loss of a great president is also a way to retreat and remember all the great things she contributed to Philippine history.

Yahoo news summarizes President Aquino’s liife, see link here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/as_obit_corazon_aquino
