Looking for Halloween Costumes

October 24th, 2009

fairy_costume
When it comes to Halloween, what comes to my mind first is something spooky from decorations to scary characters and costumes based on images of death and the supernatural. And having this in mind, I am having a hard time looking for a Halloween costume not for myself but for my Claire… I registered her for some tricks and treats this Halloween and since it’s already one week to go… I gotta find a costume fast! I’m almost tempted to shop online looking at those Tinker Bell costumes, I’m sure she will be so lovely, but I think finding it personally in the mall is a sure thing to fit. So I bring my little girl shopping with me today and could not find that costume I found online, but the first fairy costume she fits delighted my eyes so I pick it. I’m now exited to see my little girl on her fairy costume and joining other kids celebrating this occasion!

I never got a chance to attend and dress in a Halloween costume before, poor me… hehe.. but I’m sure this coming Halloween will be memorable for Claire will be participating it… :)

Christmas is near! Joy to the world!

October 22nd, 2009

Listening and watching this video makes me excited for Christmas! This is one of the best and joyful performances of Mariah… i just love her voice and her songs. Though it was performed 4 years ago, watching it reminds me that christmas is fast approaching!

I am planning to decorate our home with Christmas decors this weekend and bring out our old christmas tree, clean up our Santa Claus and install christmas lights inside and outside the house… but hmm, something is missing.. one thing I wish to have is a complete nativity set. I hope I can acquire one this christmas.

As early as the 1st day of September, christmas songs can be heard anywhere… malls, radio, television and even officemates singing carols in the background. How time flies and Christmas is near! Some big malls and restaurants are putting up christmas decorations already. I can already see shoppers shopping christmas decorations and when on the streets – streetchildrens are singing christmas carols outside the car window. Christmas is indeed on the air and singing “joy to the world” makes this special occasion a day to look forward to. I wish and pray that the whole world will be joyous and blessed this Christmas.

Feast of Ramadan 2009 (Eid’l Fitr)

September 21st, 2009

This year 2009, September 21 is declared as a Regular Holiday, no work for most of the companies and no classes in schools and universities… but I am here in the office in front of my desktop working… :) well, I’m not complaining because it is a relaxing day to work in the office today, no major issues and tasks pops up in my outlook.

I am reflecting the importance of this occasion where I believe all over the world whether Muslims or not is observing but of course it is a big and important occasion for Muslims. Ramadan or Eid’l Fitr is the ninth month of the Islamic Calendar from which all participating Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, smoking and all other ill-natured vices from dawn until sunset. It is also a month of worship and renewal of family ties. I read one article that the sighting of the moon is done by Muslims on the last day of Ramadan… I wonder what is the significant of this activity to them, it says that when the new moon is born before the sunset, Muslims will fast next morning for the first day of their fasting.

I respect this belief of my Muslim brothers but during my Theology lessons before, I did not learn that God commanded us for the moon to be sighted just in order to determine the beginning of the new month. What I believe is that no matter what beliefs we have and how we celebrated each belief, the common denominator is that we have only One same God.

Ninoy Aquino Day

August 21st, 2009

Occasion: Commemoration of the death of Benigno ‘Ninoy’ Aquino, Jr.
Holiday Date: August 21
Official Status: Special Non-working Holiday
Why we celebrate this occasion? Ninoy’s heroic act to the Philippines

Yes, It’s a special non-working holiday today and occasions like this gives me an opportunity to bond with my family and spend quality time together at home… also a time for myself. Today I feel so relaxed and I tried not to look at my planner so I will be more focused on house keeping and not on upcoming busy schedules. I found time to browse the whole house this morning especially those corners that I seldom got an opportunity to go during my busy working days. One of my favorite place in our house is the rooftop, it’s over looking the neighborhood and sitting here makes me so relaxed, oh! how wonderful it is to find time to pause and keep the silence…

Well, we owe thanks for the rest day we are enjoying now to our heroes especially to Ninoy whom Filipino people are commemorating today… :)

Family Picnic with the little girl

June 21st, 2009

claire's photo shoot in the park
It’s another family picnic get-together-weekend for the three of us and I’m again surprised of my discovery in this occasion of family bonding with my little girl. She is so happy that you cannot stop her from moving, running and chasing other children in the park. What impressed me is when she learned to interact with other people asking her to pose for a picture and she can immediately gives her ‘pa-cute’ smile and ‘pa-effect’ pose… hehehe… My 1 year old brings such joy to both of us!

I think I know why she is so happy today, because this is also the day where she turns exactly 1 year and 7 monhts old.. haha…

Independence Day in the Philippines

June 12th, 2009

I see Philippine Flag waving everywhere, inside the offices, schools, big establishments, in streets and even hanging in each car. And it reminds me of the Philippine Independence which is celebrated every 12th of June. In order to observe the importance of this occasion, the government declared this as a legal holiday which means, generally no work and no classes are held this day. Thanks to my history lesson, I learned to value this day as one of the special occasion in the country. I remember when my history teacher presented in class different story of how different countries acquire their Independence, the whole class was so attentive and many questions were raised and from that point I learned to appreciate this occasion.

Independence is one of the beautiful words for me, the sound of freedom and self determination makes individual strong and alive. It’s so wonderful to be free! It’s a broad and extensive expression, and we can relate and share a lot of things about it.

I am free, you are free, we can do anything we want as long as we know our limitations. How to celebrate Independence Day is up to each of us because it doesn’t only stop from history of how the country acquired it but also means the individual freedom to make our country a better place to live in.

Happy Independence Day Philippines! Mabuhay!

Holiday Bonding

January 3rd, 2009

This year’s holiday is the longest vacation I acquired. I got 14 days leave from work with pay! And what is important is the opportunity to bond together with my little princess, and for me this is the most special occasion of the year – having time with the special people in your life. I value this occasion because most of my time are spent with a busy day-time job, think and work on our little businesses and some household events and chores that sometimes hinder me to give a quality time with my little girl.
bonding with mommy
I observe the following inexpensive checklist to ensure quality time together:

  • Chill in our room, play and laugh
  • Movie Marathon – Dora, Disney Princess, Disney characters
  • Play rhyme songs and sing with her
  • Feed and cook for her myself
  • Go out and stroll in the mall – a fun ride in Timezone
  • Dine out and order her favorite Congee in Chowking
  • Attend kids birthday party to simulate her interaction with other kids
  • Go to church together
  • Hang out in our living area and teach her how to walk

… and I can see how my little girl responded happily to the quality time her dad and I give her.

Welcome Year 2009!

January 1st, 2009

the midnight table
I don’t want to list down and discuss all the New Year’s resolution I have in mind now because ever since I was a child, none of my new year’s resolution list is exactly followed. All I did is reflecting for 10 minutes before the clock strikes 12, I don’t want to promise anything thru a list but I want God to guide me to do good things throughout this year.

As soon as the clock strikes exactly 12 midnight, everybody in the house start gathering in the table, pray and eat! What we have in the table for New Year is something that I really want to prepare for this occasion. Again, I made my specialty spaghetti and fruit salad, I ordered a Chocolate Roll from Red Ribbon and a honey glazed Chicken Ham from Dimsum Break, 1 pack of Toblerone chocolates and many more.

I thank God for these foods that make this occasion complete and that may the Divine Providence continue to shower our family with abundant blessings and our daily bread this new year… Welcome Year 2009!

Lunch Out… Dine Out…

December 22nd, 2008

Part of the holiday rush is to schedule parties left and right. Today, I meet my friend Joan for lunch in Shakey’s Pizza at The Walk and then join the Web-OSS department for dinner in one of the famous barbeque grill in Cebu which is the AA’s BBQ Restaurant.

It’s a full-meal-day for me… well, I don’t mind my diet today for I just want to enjoy with the people I want to be with in a festive occasion like this. Having this kind of activities is one way of expressing the Christmas spirit… like it is important for me to meet my friends and greet them holiday wishes personally and be able to exchange gifts with them while enjoying the food… It’s so fun being with friends in a long ordinary table enjoying sumptuous foods and exchange stories and laughter while Christmas songs play on air.

What I miss so badly today is joining my relatives for a simple dinner in commemoration of my Lola’s death anniversary, so sad I miss this occasion.

It’s 3 days before Christmas and I wish you all a blessed and happy Christmas! Happy Holidays to everyone!

Why December 21 is important…

December 21st, 2008

According to Wikipedia, December 21 is the 355th day of the year in the Gregorian Calendar and its 10 days remaining until the end of the year. It came to my attention that it was December 21, 1968 where Apollo 8, the first manned mission to the moon is launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida which this occasion always amazed me from the time my Science teacher in grade school announced this to class. How I dream to land to the moon also someday…

December 21 is also the 3rd Sunday of Advent and it is approaching the most awaited and festive occasion of the month – Christmas Day! The candles in the advent wreath is already lighted in the Church where I heard Holy Mass today and the representation of the Nativity scene is also ready which means Christmas is fast approaching indeed.

And most of all December 21 is when the important little girl of my life turns 1 year old and 1 month! We celebrate the occasion as a family with a festive dinner at one of our favorite restaurant.
